A happy memory of Anne Olivier Bell’s 99th birthday party in Firle, East Sussex. I can’t think of a better image to launch my website or to counteract the grey day. I only wish I could include other photos from the party–particularly Olivier with her granddaughters–but I was laughing when I took them, and they’re out of focus. The editor of Virginia Woolf’s diaries, Olivier died last summer at 102. There’s no describing her importance to Woolf scholars everywhere or to me personally, but this suggests it: https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2018/jul/19/anne-olivier-bell-obituary
